The Zimbabwe International Film and Festival Trust (ZIFFT) in partnership with Alliance Française
Zimbabwe are running the Smartphone Short Film Competition 2018. Themed “Being Zimbabwean”, the competition is focused on Zimbabwe’s 16 to 34 year age group, as a platform for them to freely express their inner voice, and contribute to an all-important national discourse.
Launched on 12 April at Alliance Française de Harare, the competition will be running for 45 days, with
the winners to be announced on 27 May 2018.
It challenges youth from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to test their filmmaking craft by creating a
short film of not more than 4 minutes long, using a Smartphone.
You have your voice back at this very critical stage in Zimbabwe’s contemporary history, and are now
free to talk about socio-economic issues that impact your lives today and pave the way for your future.
It’s your time to stand up and talk about who you are, what makes you tick, and your aspirations.
A key competition condition is that the films must be apolitical and non-religious.
The Smartphone Short Film Competition has received a major boost from sponsorship support by the
youth-oriented Econet Wireless subsidiary, Elevate. Our media partners include the Zimpapers radio
stations (StarFM, Capitalk , Diamond FM and Nyaminyami FM), Skys Metro and the Zimbabwe
Association of Community Radio Stations.
