The Zimbabwe Film Industry Development Platform (ZFIDP) recently held its 5th Annual General Meeting. Attendance was consistent with previous editions, this time with members present in person and online.

This year’s AGM was the first since the successful conclusion of the organisation’s first ever strategic plan which will provide guidance over the next 3 years. This strategic plan also brought foundational clarity to the ZFIDP’s mandate, mission and vision, as follows:

The ZFIDP is a membership driven organisation that advocates for the inclusive
growth of a sustainable Zimbabwean Film and Television Industry.

A vibrant, competitive and sustainable Zimbabwe film and television industry.

To contribute to the professional and inclusive growth of the Zimbabwean film and television industry value chain, through capacity development, research, self-regulation and policy advocacy.

Members were updated on the organisation’s action plan and progress toward its
implementation by the following subcommittees:
• Advocacy 1: Policy
• Advocacy 2: Finance and Investment
• Research
• Standards and Training
• Secretariat Transition Taskforce

It was notable that progress is being made in dialogue with the government in the process toward adoption of a National Film Policy, with an all stakeholders’ Indaba currently being planned.

One recurring plea throughout proceedings was the need for a secretariat to ensure effectiveness and sustainability.

The Executive Committee bade farewell to the ZFIDP’s founding chairman, Mr. Anthony Mutambira, whose mandatory one year transitional presence came to an end. He remains an active member of several committees.
