Zimbabwe International Film & Festival Trust Board

Effective 1 June 2022, ZIFFT has engaged a new board of 7 high-performing professionals who are geared to drive the organisation’s vision with their passion, experience and dynamism.

Below are the board members and their profiles:

Sapi Bachi

Sapi Bachi has over 20 years of experience in the communications industry in Southern Africa. She is an entrepreneur who believes in Africa and her potential to be self-sufficient. She has worked in various capacities with expertise in areas such as business development, corporate communications, Branding, Marketing, Change Management, Content Production, Digital Transformation, Transition Planning, Project Management, Sales and Product Development

Sapi is the Executive Director of Full Circle Communications (Pvt) Ltd, a Non- Executive director for Zimbabwe Advertising Research Fund (ZARF) and is Chair of the Advertising Standards Authority. She also is a member of the Executive Committee for the Zimbabwe Association of Accredited Practitioners in Advertising

(ZAAPA) and a member of the Institute of Directors Zimbabwe and Marketers Association of Zimbabwe.

Sapi is the winner of the Director of the Year Award SME (2020)- Institute of Directors Zimbabwe2020. Under her leadership, the organisations she has been involved with have won numerous awards and excelled in their missions.

Daves Guzha

A prominent Zimbabwean arts practitioner with a long and distinguished career on both sides of the stage and screen, he has spent 27 years in the arts industry as an actor, director, producer, administrator and social justice activist.

Having starred in more than 40 plays and 15 films, Daves does not only express dissent but also promotes an open exchange of ideas and free flow of information vital to the nation. He has been credited with various firsts which range

from creating Zimbabwe’s first post-independent commercial and professional theatre space, Theatre in the Park and crafting and implementing the first co-production deal

between the countries only TV station ZTV and his independent film production house, Creative Native.

A few of the works he has been instrumental to include:-“Life” a 52-minute film widely distributed by UNESCO – Middle East (Producer/Actor); “Masiyiwa, A love for Life” – a documentary on one of the top 5 leading sculptors of the world (Producer); “Waiters” a 39 episode sitcom ( Zimbabwe’s first) which unravelled the country’s intricate and delicate on race relations and widely distributed in 49 African countries (Producer and script supervisor); “Sinners” a full-length feature film on female rapists (Producer); “Super Patriots and Morons” a feature film on a schizophrenic leader (Producer/Actor) and “Strange bedfellows” a short film (Actor). Other projects in the film are in progress.

He serves on the boards of Artists Trust of Southern Africa (a SADC-driven cultural initiative where he also doubles as Regional Coordinating Director), Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe (VMCZ) and is the current Chairman of African Fathers Initiative (A Pan-African body dedicated to fatherhood) and ZIFFT.

Chenesai Mangoma

Chenesai Mangoma is a project leader, qualified lawyer, and trade strategist across Africa’s creative industry economy. A community engagement specialist, she is a social change agent whose values are anchored by authenticity, collaboration, and inclusivity. Passionate about education, sustainable trade, and building sustainable systems as value chains, Chenesai brings a polymath’s view to every project she embarks on. She is a former student of the

renowned Monte Cassino Girls High school in Macheke, Zimbabwe who graduated magna cum laude in Law, from the University of Pretoria in 2012. Since then, she has grown beyond her legal background to build a multi-disciplinary career that spans fashion, creative economies, international trade, community upliftment and education. With a laser-sharp focus on Africa’s greatness and unleashing that potential to the world, Chenesai’s values are anchored in the success of  Africa through Pan-African collaboration.

Chenesai is a global leader with over twelve years of experience building and leading teams. She was a manager in training at Capital One Finance in the USA, an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Pretoria, and a professional assistant in Law at Honey and Blackenberg Zimbabwe. She serves on various local and international boards such as the AfCFTA Youth – a recent appointment. Mrs Mangoma loves to volunteer her time with organisations that empower youth with knowledge and capacity building – specifically technical and business upskilling. She has been recognised by her peers as a multi-disciplinary content creator who also happens to be a consummate coach and facilitator. Armed with a Master’s in Trade and

Investment Law in Africa from the University of Pretoria, and a decade of business experience, Chenesai’s focus over the next five years is to keep contributing to the growth of the creative economy by increasing the trade capacity of creative industry practitioners toward building legacy businesses.

Comfort Mbofana

Comfort Mbofana is a renowned player in Zimbabwe’s media with extensive experience in the creative industries. He has worked in the print and broadcasting sectors of the media as a reporter and producer before rising in the ranks to become a media executive. He is currently the General Manager of the Zimpapers Radio Broadcasting Division-the leading radio consortium in the country.

He has also been an advertising executive -starting in client management before going into management. He was the founder and Director of one of the top advertising agencies in Zimbabwe with a strong regional footprint (Malawi, Zambia and SA).

Nigel Munyati

Nigel Munyati is a dynamic social entrepreneur, strategic management, marketing, communications, and international development specialist; with over 25 years’ multicultural experience in managing manufacturing operations, public sector investment programs, and business development in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, USA, Australia, and Latin America.

He holds a BSc. in Food Science from the Pennsylvania State University (USA) and an MBA from Leeds University (UK). He has been

Director of Marketing for a US conference call service provider, ECI Conference Call Services, and ITT Sheraton Hotels – Africa Region (Botswana, Benin, Nigeria, Uganda, and Zimbabwe; and a Sales Office in South Africa). He also has Operations Management experience as Regional Manager for Dairibord (Chipinge and Harare) where he also commissioned processing plants.

As a communications expert, together with his late brother Michael, they started a marketing and communications company, Munyati Consulting, that consulted on many communications programmes and high-profile events such as: Introduction of Live television coverage of Davis Cup Tennis matches to Zimbabwe (Ukraine, Austria, Italy, Australia, Chile,

and USA); Event management and communications for the Southern Africa International Dialogue (SAID’99); Official Opening of Matetsi Private Game Lodges Official Opening of West-End Clinic; Event management and communications for the African-African American Summit and Communications for the World Council of Churches Silver Jubilee.

In addition to the above consultancies, other key clients included the Africa-America Institute (AAI), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the United Nations Commission for Trade & Development (UNCTAD), Creative Associates International, Inc/AMEX International, Delta Beverages, Net●One (Created “The world in your pocket” tag line), Industrial Development Corporation of Zimbabwe, City of Harare, Zimbabwe Blood Transfusion Service, and Tennis Zimbabwe. Nigel’s Sales and Marketing training experience include conducting hotel sales and marketing management training for over 200 ITT Sheraton hotel management personnel in Africa and Pakistan. He has also coordinated education training and development workshops for over 800 participants in Ethiopia, Swaziland, and the United States.

A student leader, Nigel was a member of the Concert Committee at Penn State, and an MBA Student Representative at Leeds University. He continues to make contributions to corporate and civic responsibility and is a Founding Trustee of the Zimbabwe International Film Festival Trust (ZIFFT) and Founder and Director of the Aces Youth Soccer Academy. He also is the Co-Vice Chairman of the National Economic Consultative Forum (Media and Publicity Taskforce), a Board Member of the Zimbabwe Football Association, and has been Board Member of the Zimbabwe Council for Tourism. Since 2018 he has been a Commissioner on the Sports and Recreation Commission board acquired by Netflix.

Joe Njagu

Joe Njagu is a Zimbabwean filmmaker with a severe passion for filmmaking and over 15 years in the entertainment industry. He directed his debut feature film Lobola in 2010, which paved the way for a new chapter of independent filmmaking in Zimbabwe. His next feature film, The Gentleman, won him best foreign language director at the America International Film Festival and Best Film at the NAMA Awards in 2012. He has directed and shot several other feature films, including Something Nice From London, Escape, Tete B And The Letter. Joe has also produced Cook Off, the first Zimbabwean film to be

Joe is a 2016 YALI alumni and a Mandela Washington Fellow, the flagship program of President Barack Obama’s Young African Leadership Initiative where he was enrolled at Cambridge University in Boston USA. He was listed among the Top 35 Under 35 in media in Africa by the non-profit Young Professionals in International Affairs in 2014.

Joe was one of the 40 NAMA 2021 legends that were awarded for their achievements in Zimbabwe, he was the youngest of the 40 to be given the accolade.

Dumisani Nkala

Dumisani Nkala is a results-driven, goal- achieving Management Professional, offering twenty years of experience in the Telecommunications Industry in General Management | Business Development | Business Transformation | Product Management and Development | Relationship Management | Leadership | and Business Process Analysis. She Employs strong analytical, strategic, planning, interpersonal and communication skills to lead cross-functional teams in the development and implementation of strategic business solutions to meet critical business needs. Dumisani is a Strong driver

of organisational change and transformation. Skilled at managing multiple transformation and collaboration projects from planning through to execution. She is Self-motivated, confident, innovative and always keen to learn from others.

Dumisani is a leader at all levels being the Executive Director on the Board of Directors of Telecontract Pvt Ltd t/a Telco since 2008, Non-Executive Director on the Board of Trustees of Barbara C Makalisa Literary Trust (a trust for the furtherance of indigenous languages) since 2019 and was Executive Director on the Board of Directors of Zinandi Telecommunications Pty Ltd (South Africa) from 2005 to 2014

She is the Founding Chairperson/Secretariat for the Blockchain Association of Zimbabwe, a founding member of the South African Telecommunications Service Providers Association in 2010 and the Secretary of the Zimbabwe Internet Access Providers Association (ZIAPA). Dumisani was an Enablis Entrepreneurial Network Coach (individual entrepreneurial coaching and running Business Growth seminars) and an attendant at the Wits Business School ‘Grow Your Business’ course attaining top prize for Business Innovation in 2009.

Dumisani also holds Telecommunications Regulatory Masterclasses; Numbering Masterclass, and Regulatory Affairs and is a Quintum Certified Professional [VoIP Equipment Supplier.
