Hi- 5 Short Film Competition nears closing

  Sep 22, 2016

The Zimbabwe International Film & Festival Trust (ZIFFT) reminds film makers interested in the Hi-5 Short Film Competition that the closing date is near.

The highly popular competition opened its doors for film submissions on 1st September and close 30th of September so film makers yet to submit their films are urged to do so in the next few days.

The competition which, was introduced last year is platform for young and emerging film makers to test their film making craft by creating a  fully packaged film of 5 minutes, or less.

Tight  rules and regulations, ensures that the filmmakers’ pedigree is challenged in a manner that will help them grow as they tell their stories.

Last year’s competition challenged film makers to tell narrative stories without dialogue. Igi Matope, Maston Mbewe and Jonathan Samukange scooped first, second and third prizes respectively.

This year’s, competition is focusing on making a documentary film without interviews and filmmakers are encouraged to make clever use of images, sound and images to tell compelling stories.

According to Festival Director Elton Mjanana, the competition will retain the same prizes as last year as follows; First Prize, a video camera worth US$500 and film rental equipment to the same amount. Second Prize rental of film equipment worth US$300 and Third Prize rental of film equipment worth US$200.

The volume of last year’s entries was overwhelming and ZIFFT expects this year to be even more as the competition grows in stature and outreach.

“We salute our partners and sponsors in this competition, the Embassy of The Republic of Germany and MMX Rental for affording young Zimbabwean talent the chance to develop their craft earning their tools of the trade”, said Mjanana.

The winners will be announced on the 8th October during the ZIFF2016 Zambezi Magic Awards Night.
